Summer solstice - are you feeling bright or depleted?

I’m writing to you on week 3 of a very heavy cold virus, which has wiped me out for June so far. I feel like I may have lost half my brain into a mass of tissues!

I love celebrating the solstice’s and the equinox’s. It feels like a clear reason to connect back to the seasons and cycles of nature.

Summer solstice is a time of celebration. Celebrating the sun reaching it’s highest point in our skies, nature being in full bloom, the sun lighting everything up and making it all look gorgeous and for us to reflect on how far we’ve come since the winter solstice 6 months before.

But if like me at the moment, you’re not feeling shiny and bright. Maybe you’re unwell, feeling low, lacking energy, have hayfever, exhausted by the heat. The pull of summer to be out there and enjoying the abundance can feel like a pressure, when your insides don’t match the outsides.

So I’m sending this to remind you that we all have our own internal seasons, and they don’t always match up with the outer seasons and that’s ok. If you think everyone is at the beach, hiking a mountain, having a BBQ every night, remember that every dog has it’s day and your summer will arrive again.

Whatever the season, always make space for rest. If we are always flying close to the sun we will eventually get burned out.
